PRE-GRADUATE WORK

FIRST IMPRESSION
2018
The work is a series of extreme experimentation with colour. In the series, I really wanted to challenge myself. Because knowing that when painting on acetate the end product was the first imprint you put to the surface. The process of painting onto the acetate was that I myself had the acetate laying in a way where I could not see how the painting was going to turn out. Every brushstroke, every pull, every swirl was all experimental and unknowing to me how they looked from the other side and as an end piece.
I chose acetate as my material due to wanting a more challenging and experimental surface to work on. The idea of having the acetate pinned up like a canvas but not knowing the outcome as you were painting was something that really intrigued me. I chose to use acrylic paint as my painting medium due to its plastic consistency. I needed something that would cling to the smooth surface of the acetate.
While working on the pieces I found it challenging to create depth. As I was learning I found that painting in different sections could create a layered effect. By letting the paint dry and starting in a different place each time made some other paints further in and some of them stand out more.
This experimental series taught me a lot of things about how colour, and how the first impression on a canvas or surface of work could be very impactful.
LEGACIES
2019
The Hunt Museum Exhibition is a project-based exhibition for 2nd year painting students. Where you are to create a body of work inspired by the piece of art in the museum.
I found the Hunt at first very old fashion and not something I would be interested in. Looking around I started to see little pieces here there like a snuff-box, Small pots in the big cabinet, paintings and also the architecture. The oriental items interest me the most. After that, I found so many pieces that caught my interest, which shocked me. Having a limited time to complete my 21 piece collection, but I knew 21 was the number of paintings I needed to fill the vitrine.
The paintings are in both acrylic paint and oil paint, on MDF boards.
